Established in 1960 and situated in Xiamen and Quanzhou, Fujian province, P.R.C., HQU is a comprehensive university directly under the Overseas Chinese Affairs Office of the State Council of China. It is designated as a National Base for Chinese Language and Culture Education, a National Base for University Students' Cultural Quality Education, a National Demonstration Base for Language Service Export, a National Demonstration University for Deepening Innovation and Entrepreneurship Education Reform, and a National Base for the Inheritance of Excellent Traditional Chinese Culture in Higher Education Institutions.

APPLICATION PROCESS
I. Eligibility
International applicants (holding passports of foreign countries and shall not have Chinese nationality at the same time) should be no more than 22 years old, with a senior high school diploma or an equivalent academic one, outstanding grades, good physical and mental health, good behavior, and a clean criminal record.
In accordance with Chinese Ministry of Education’s Regulations on Recruiting International Students for Higher Institutions, any applicant who has immigrated from China (including China’s Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) to foreign countries, or who has acquired foreign nationality at birth because one or both of his/her parents are Chinese nationals settling abroad, should has hold the valid foreign passport or nationality certificate for more than 4 years (including 4 years), and should has lived in the foreign country for more than 2 years (living for 9 months in the foreign country per year can be counted as 1 year) within the latest 4 years (before April 30th of the year of enrollment).
II. Ways of Admission
1. Admission Application for International Students
(1) International students holding overseas high school diplomas shall submit personal application documents through the online application system (https://admissions.hqu.edu.cn/). Those who meet the requirements will be admitted after review. Application deadline: May 31st, 2026. Those failing to provide complete materials within the specified time will be regarded as giving up their application qualifications. Documents needed are as follows:
(2) Complete personal information and valid contact information in the application system.
(3) Passport ID page (passport validity should be on or after 2028) and one-inch color photo in clear JPG format. The photo is for enrollment registration. Any retouch of the photo is not allowed. There shall be no covering of any facial parts including eyebrows, ears.
(4) Notarized or certified high school (or above) diploma, annual academic transcripts of high school. If graduation certificates and transcripts are not in Chinese or English, please attach authenticated Chinese or English translations.
(5) Transcripts and corresponding translations of high school graduation examinations or UEC/A Level/AP/IB/SAT/ACT for reference.
(6) HSK Certificate.
(7) Recommendation Letter (by applicant’s high school, overseas Chinese groups or communities, renowned overseas Chinese leaders, or overseas admission offices of HQU in the local countries).
(8) Physical Examination Report ( mark the date which should be after February, 2026).
(9) Application Commitment Letter for International Students of Huaqiao University.
(10) Score report of China Scholastic Competency Assessment (CSCA).
Tests subject include Professional Chinese, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
①Professional Chinese
Applicants of Chinese-taught programs should take the corresponding Professional Chinese test according to the category of the program they are applying for.
English-taught programs or Chinese language applicants with valid HSK Level 4 or better certificate are exempted.
②Fundamental Subjects
Mathematics (Compulsory): Mathematics is an important basis for examining the applicant’s basic academic ability and logical thinking ability. Mathematics is required for all programs.
Physics and Chemistry (Optional): In principle, applicants for Science, Engineering, Agriculture, and Medical programs should take at least one of the above two subjects as an elective.
For CSCA syllabus and specific schedule, please refer to the CSCA official website (www.csca.cn).
(11) In accordance with Chinese Ministry of Education’s Regulations on Recruiting International Students for Higher Institutions, any applicant who has immigrated from China (including China’s Mainland, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) to foreign countries should submit (a) Chinese nationality cancellation certificate; (b) Certificate of foreign nationality; (c) Entry and exit records for the latest 4 years (until before April 30th, 2026) issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau. Any applicant who has acquired foreign nationality at birth because one or both of his/her parents are Chinese nationals settling abroad, should submit (a) Certificate of foreign nationality at birth; (b) Proof of permanent residence of his/her parents (Chinese citizens) in the foreign country before the applicant’s birth; (c) Entry and exit records for the latest 4 years (until before April 30th, 2026) issued by the Exit-Entry Administration Bureau.
2. Entrance Examination for International Students
International students can register to take the Joint International Admissions Examination by Jinan University and Huaqiao University for Hongkong, Macao, Taiwan, Overseas Chinese Students and Foreign Students. Please log on https: //lxlz.jnu.edu.cn/ to submit the application for examination.
Registration for the examination is scheduled in every March, with examination started in May.
3. Registration Process
(1) HQU reviews the application documents and provides feedback through the application system. Students admitted can download the ‘Admission Notice’ through the application system and check the scholarship awarded.
(2) HQU issues JW202 Form via email to students admitted.
(3) International students should apply for X1 visa at Chinese Embassy/Consulate in the host country with the Admission Notice and JW202 Form.
(4) Students should pay attention to the “Admission Instructions for International Students” released on the Undergraduate Admissions Information website of Huaqiao University (https://zsc.hqu.edu.cn/zsxx/gatqjlxsbkzs.htm), and register at the time specified.
Note: HQU reserves the right to review the physical examination report and qualifications of the applicants. For those who are recognized by Exit-Entry Administration Bureau as having dual nationality and those who are unqualified will have their admission canceled.

Notes:
1. The admissions category refers to the academic background students should have in middle school. For example, students without a background in physics, chemistry, biology, or information technology during secondary school are not advised to apply for majors categorized as science. Majors that accept both arts and science are open to all students for application.
2. The HSK certificate is not required for Chinese Language, Education of Chinese Language, and Chinese Language Preparatory Program. Applicants should reach HSK Level 5 to be qualified for arts programs or arts and science programs. In principle, applicants should also reach HSK Level 5 to choose science programs.
3. Chinese Language Preparatory Program:
Students whose Chinese proficiency do not meet the admission requirements for undergraduate programs will first attend Chinese Language Preparatory Program. Through one year of intensive learning, students will comprehensively improve their Chinese proficiency, professional knowledge and cross-cultural communication skills, and have their admission into the undergraduate programs once graduated.
4. Pre-university Program (Arts/Science) :
There are classes for Liberal Arts and Science, focusing on strengthening and improving high school knowledge. Students who finish their studies and pass the comprehensive assessment can be directly admitted to HQU for undergraduate programs.
5. Applicants for the technical programs (including Musicology, Dance Studies, Physical Education, Fine Arts, Product Design, and Visual Communication Design) should have relevant skills. Extra technical tests will be arranged if necessary.
6. Students of technical programs, English-medium programs (the three programs of the International School) and Education of Chinese Language are not allowed to transfer to other programs, and vice versa.
7. Above are the recommended programs for international students. Please refer to the admission application system to see the programs available. If the program is changed, we will inform the student to make the adjustment. Special teaching syllabuses are designed for the above programs but not for other programs not listed. The Software Engineering program implements a combined cultivation for both domestic and international students.
8. Some programs above adopt ‘1+3’ integrated talent cultivation across two campuses; that is, students spend the first and subsequent academic years in different campuses. Please refer to the final registration notice to check the registration campus.

1. Tuition fees are credit-based for undergraduate programs.

Ⅲ. Living expenses are approximately 1,500 yuan per month, depending on the student.
